Modernizing a DC rig with AC drive control

Jomax needed to convert existing DC drilling rig traction motors to AC, along with a modern control system, dynamic braking, and an auto-driller.

ACE delivered an APEX AC Drilling System with custom-built ABB ACS880 drives and new 1600 HP traction motors for the mud pumps and drawworks, plus a new APEX Drilling Controls console and an updated Omron PLC with distributed I/O.

The precise control offered by the APEX Drilling Controls improved both safety and operating efficiency.
