Safety-critical accumulator control for a walking rig
The accumulator had to sit at the rig center piece, with specific design features required to meet regulatory requirements.
ACE built APEX Accumulator Controls: a PLC control system with a driller’s display and a second remote display in the drive house, including fire-retardant cabling and battery backup. Both 15-inch touchscreens require two-hand operation as a built-in safety to prevent accidental function operation.
The design let the drilling operator meet all regulatory requirements to move the accumulator to the rig center piece and improve operations with a walking rig.
